Joanne Bischof carries on the story of Lonnie and Gideon in Book Two of The Cadence of Grace series in Though My Heart Is Torn. I have to admit that I was nervous to pick up this book and start it. I had just read Be Still My Soul and loved the story so much. I was happy to see things working out for Lonnie and Gideon and was extremely nervous knowing that there was going to be some major heartache coming for them in this sequel. However, I am so glad I picked it up and started reading. Once I did, I had trouble putting it down. Yes, there is major heartache as these two characters are literally torn apart and their marriage dissolved. The author leads you through their pain as you watch their separate stories unfold and see how they are moving through their lives as they are forced to be apart.
In book one and book two in this series, I have been extremely impressed with the author’s ability to take a character and really make me dislike them and the decisions they are making. Then, as I continue in my reading, I realize that I am growing to care for that character, or at least feel some compassion for them. This is how I felt with Gideon in Be Still My Soul and with Cassie in Though My Heart Is Torn.
I loved the fact that Lonnie’s Aunt Sarah reminded Lonnie about the story of King Solomon and the two women claiming a baby as their own. The real mother, who truly loved the baby, was willing to let the baby go to save the baby’s life. This clarified things for Lonnie and it also touched my heart and helped me as I read this story and watched Lonnie love Gideon by letting him go.
Book Three, My Hope Is Found, releases in October and I am anxiously awaiting it already! I was blessed to receive Though My Heart Is Torn in a contest on Joanne Bischof’s blog and have been blessed even more to have read these books. I will be reading them again and again!
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Settling into a simple life in the majestic Blue Ridge mountains, Lonnie and Gideon O’Riley have finally found happiness after the rocky start to their marriage. The roguish bluegrass musician has fallen in love with his gentle wife and the God she serves, and Lonnie rests secure in his tenderness for her and their young son. A heartless ruse interupts their peace, bringing them back to Rocky Knob—and forces them to face the claims of Cassie Allan, a woman who says she is Gideon’s rightful wife.
As Gideon wades into the depths of his past choices, Lonnie is stunned by the revelations. She has no choice but to navigate this new path, knowing that surviving the devastating blow will take every ounce of strength she has.
While Gideon’s guilt and his bitterness towards Cassie threatens to burn up his fledgling faith, Lonnie wrestles to find the courage to trust the God who brought them together in the first place. Will their hard-earned love be able to conquer all?
Lonnie only wanted her husband’s love. Now that he belongs to another, can she surrender Gideon to a God with a bigger plan?
