Review: Chance of Loving You

by Terri Blackstock, Candace Calvert, & Susan May Warren

Chance of Loving You Chance of Loving You is an anthology by three bestselling romance authors. If you are looking for fun and sweet love stories, this may be a good match for you.

Although all three are novellas, I felt like I got to know the characters in each novella fairly well. None of the stories felt rushed to me and all three had sweet, happy endings. I did not really connect well with the two main characters from For Love of Money by Terri Blackstock. It was well-written and an interesting storyline, but Blake Adcock got on my last nerve. My frustration with Blake just got worse as the story continued and I didn’t really want him to end up with Julie! So, although many others will probably enjoy this story, I just did not. I will add, though that this novella had quite a few humorous moments.

I did like the two other novellas. The Recipe by Candace Calvert was a very emotional and heartfelt story. I thought that the two main characters, Aimee and Lucas, had great chemistry. Their journey together and the individual growth that each experienced in the book was heartwarming and I did not want to see their novella come to an end.

I also enjoyed Hook, Line & Sinker by Susan May Warren. Abigail and Ross had some big hurts to work through. Tragedy pulled them apart and, to be honest, when I learned their backstory, I was a bit surprised at exactly how things had gone wrong. One conversation could have cleared up the confusion and saved some additional heartache! But, it was an enjoyable story and I liked getting to know the characters.

If you are a fan of romances, these three stories will be an enjoyable way to pass the time. (4 stars)

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

Terri Blackstock
Terri Blackstock

Terri Blackstock’s books have sold six million copies worldwide. Her suspense novels often debut at number one on the Christian fiction best-seller lists, and True Light, published in 2007, was number one of all Christian books—fiction and non-fiction. Known for her “Up All Night Fiction,” Terri has had over twenty-five years of success as a novelist.

In 1994 Terri was writing for publishers such as HarperCollins, Harlequin and Silhouette, when a spiritual awakening drew her into the Christian market. As she was praying about her transition, she went on a cruise and noticed that almost everyone on the boat (including her) had a John Grisham novel. It occurred to her that some of Grisham’s readers were Christians, and that if she wrote a fast-paced thriller with an added element—a strong Christian message—she might just find her niche. As God would have it, Christian publishers were just getting interested in the suspense genre, so she quickly sold a four-book series to Zondervan. Since that time, she’s written over thirty Christian titles, most of them suspense novels.

Her newest book, Double Minds, is in stores now. Other recent books include those in her acclaimed Restoration Series, which includes Last Light, Night Light, True Light and Dawn’s Light. She is also known for her popular Newpointe 911 Series and Cape Refuge Series. Terri makes her home in Mississippi, where she and her husband Ken are enjoying their empty nest after raising three children.

Terri has appeared on national television programs such as “The 700 Club” and “Home Life,” and has been a guest on numerous radio programs across the country. The story of her personal journey appears in books such as Touched By the Savior by Mike Yorkey, True Stories of Answered Prayer by Mike Nappa, Faces of Faith by John Hanna, and I Saw Him In Your Eyes by Ace Collins.

My biggest problem with novellas is that I usually don’t connect the characters because the books are so short. I’m glad to hear that wasn’t a big problem with these. Thanks so much for sharing. I’ll just may give them a try.
