Review: A Love to Call Mine by Merrillee Whren

a-love-to-call-mineA Love to Call Mine was SO good! The story took the main characters, Max and Heather, on a very difficult journey as they navigated Max’s treatment for his cancer. There were also hurt feelings from the past that kept creeping into their slowly blossoming romance. I thought that the author did such a great job of expressing the confusing thoughts and worries that both of these characters felt. This was one of those books that really made me feel as if I knew Max and Heather and traveled along this path with them.

Max not only battled the effects that cancer treatment brought about in his body, but he wrestled with many other insecurities regarding his family history. He had an intense need to belong, yet that desire battled with wanting to keep control and do things for himself. Questions of faith and of how to lean on God and trust Him in both the good and bad times were woven throughout the story naturally and effectively. This book was very hard for me to set down!

a-love-to-call-mineMax Reynolds wants one thing—to find the family of the father he never knew, the father who didn’t want him. But Max’s goal is cast aside when he is diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. And worse yet, his oncology nurse is meddlesome Heather Watson—the woman who destroyed his hope of marrying the woman he loved.
