MY REVIEW

This was the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Even though I had not read any of the other books in the series, I had no trouble reading this book as a stand alone. The author did a good job of giving some background on side characters in a natural way so that I didn’t feel any confusion over who people were.

Tony and Jax sure had been through a lot of trauma. It was hard to see how much they were struggling when they first moved to town. But it was heartwarming to watch as, little by little, Jax began to improve and emotionally deal with what he had been through.

Kayla and Tony both had some trouble getting past their own distorted views of themselves and it was frustrating at times to see Kayla be timid due to the way she physically viewed herself or hear Tony belittle himself in his thoughts in regard to the way things turned out for his late sister, Jax’s mom. However, these two characters were ones that I couldn’t help but connect with and hope they could work through their issues.

There was a natural weaving of faith into the story. A heads up to those who are sensitive to alcohol use in novels. The characters do have some wine and beer occasionally, but nothing too excessive.
