Review: Peace in the Mountain Haven by Misty M. Beller

Peace in the Mountain Haven is part of the Call of the Rockies series, yet can be enjoyed even if you haven’t read any of the other books. The pages contain a sweet love story that develops between Hugh, a man who thinks isn’t worthy of love, and Watkuese, who is trying her very best to be the mother that her adopted daughter needs.

Watkuese’s daughter, Pop-pank, actually frustrated me a lot at the beginning of the story. She had the habit of running away and hiding from everyone, not coming out from her hiding spots for hours and hours. It was a very dangerous thing for her to do and I felt badly for Watkuese when she had to deal with that. However, it became clear that the hiding was linked to the deep hurt that she was still experiencing from losing her parents. As she traveled with Watkuese, Hugh, and Louis, I enjoyed seeing her become a happier child.

I really enjoyed reading about the journey that these four travelers took as they escorted Watkeuse and Pop-pank back to their former community. There was adventure and danger and a couple of heart-tugging kisses, too! I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I was not ready for this one to end.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This epic journey is her best chance to find the family she and her daughter long for.

Watkuese is desperate to return across the Rocky Mountains before winter sets in. Time is running out for her to get her adopted daughter back to the familiar surroundings of the Shoshone village before the grief of her parents’ death causes irreparable damage.

Hugh Charpentier has spent his life watching over his siblings, which meant also ensuring his brother’s widow and babe are settled well into their new life. Now he’s asked to help shepherd a woman and child he barely knows across the mountains. As hard as it is to keep up with a six-year-old in the treacherous Rockies, it’s not nearly as dangerous as risking his heart to a woman and child who may not ever be his.

Misty M. Beller is a USA Today bestselling author of romantic mountain stories, set on the 1800s frontier and woven with the truth of God’s love.

She was raised on a farm in South Carolina, so her Southern roots run deep. Growing up, her family was close, and they continue to keep that priority today. Her husband and daughters now add another dimension to her life, keeping her both grounded and crazy.

God has placed a desire in Misty’s heart to combine her love for Christian fiction and the simpler ranch life, writing historical novels that display God’s abundant love through the twists and turns in the lives of her characters.

Writing is a dream come true for Misty. Her family–both immediate and extended–is the foundation that holds her secure in that dream.
