Review: A Cowboy in Amish Country by Patricia Johns

What a wonderful story! Sue had a lot to decide about in the upcoming months. Formerly Amish, she had lived away from her Amish family for many years. In this story, we meet up with her as she has returned to the area as a ranch hand for a couple of months on the farm right next door to her family’s farm.

I liked the way Wilder recognized immediately that Sue was extremely good on a ranch and hired her right away. I thought he handled the news of her Amish connection to his neighbors really well. He was a man who had made some bad decisions in his past but was working hard to live a good, clean life now. I believe this made him even more understanding when he discovered that Sue was pregnant. It was fun to watch as he tried to make sure she didn’t do work that was too strenuous, while also respecting her as a strong and independent woman.

The attraction that grew between Sue and Wilder felt very natural. It was clear to me, the reader, that they belonged together. It was less clear how they could actually end up together with the pressure from the surrounding Amish community who wanted Sue to return and live Amish once more. I thought the author did a great job of bringing these two people together in a way that made sense. This book had a great happily ever after epilogue, too!

His new ranch hand…

Has a little secret

Ranching in Amish Country is both a challenge and a joy for Wilder Westhouse. Though he’ll never be fully accepted, he relies on his neighbors. Hiring Amish runaway Sue Schmidt as a ranch hand could cause problems, especially since her family lives next door. And falling for the beautiful and pregnant cattlewoman will strain relations further and complicate both their lives. Unless love can mend fences…and families.
