All of Kate Breslin’s stories are stand alone novels, yet they do have some connecting characters who have had small roles in previous books. That is definitely the case for the hero, Marcus. It was both wonderful and agonizing to have Marcus finally receive his story. Wonderful, because at the beginning of the novel, the reader knows how much Marcus loves Clare and that he wants to finally be able to begin a life with her. And agonizing as things do not fall into place to make that happen. Instead these two find themselves in unsettling circumstances that do not seem to have much hope of resolution.
I thought that Clare handled herself with beautiful resolve, even after suffering such a great heartache and also carrying the great fear that her daughter would be taken from her. I really liked the moments when she and Marcus were together and small emotional connections were made.
I also really enjoyed that Marcus’ sister, Fannie, had her own love story that began to develop in this book. There was such an sweet connection that Fannie and her love interest shared.
This story will keep you on the edge of your seat emotionally as you hope that good will prevail and love will overcome all obstacles!

ABOUT THE BOOK
In the summer of 1918, Captain Marcus Weatherford arrives in Russia on a secret mission, with a beautiful ballerina posing as his fiancée. Marcus searches for the Romanov Tsarina and her son–who both allegedly survived the murdering Bolsheviks–and the information behind an allied plot to assassinate Lenin. But Marcus’s sense of duty battles his desire to return home to Clare–his actual love.
Hospital orderly Clare Danner still suffers from Marcus’s betrayal and now fears losing her daughter to the heartless family who took Daisy away from Clare once before, but only Marcus can provide the critical proof needed to save her daughter.
Faced with danger and unexpected circumstances, can Clare trust Marcus, or will he shatter her world yet again?
