Interview & Giveaway!
Each of the stories in the Tox Files series has had a dangerous or powerful artifact that the team is up against. How did you come up with the idea of basing this series around these ancient artifacts?
Ronie Kendig: One night while working on Raptor 6, I needed a break (which is maybe another word for procrastination) and was hanging around Facebook. Former Delta Force operator turned author, Brad Taylor, posted a picture. That picture, he said, was located in one of the oldest, most continuously inhabited cities in the world. Challenge accepted! I went hunting…and several hours later, I was on fire with story ideas after finding a list of ancient cities. I’d been looking for a new concept I could blend into my Rapid-Fire Fiction, and my creativity just shot off in pursuit.
Did you reach out to anyone for help in deciding which artifacts would be a potential fit for the series?
Ronie Kendig: Yes!! In fact, Thaks to the inimitable Tosca Lee, I have become friends with Dr. Joseph Cathey–yes, he’s real and not just a literary character! Dr. Joe and I talked a lot in the early days, and he has given me ideas on artifacts and how to use them in the context of a paramilitary story. He has several degrees and is now back teaching at a seminary–but he’s also crazy creative! I owe him a massive debt of gratitude for all his help!
Thank you, Ronie, for giving us some background into your creative process!
