What a fabulous finale to the Alaskan Courage series! Although I will always hope that there will be other McKenna family sightings in future books by Dani Pettrey, I feel that she wrapped this series up in a spectacular fashion.
If you have not read the other books in the series, you can follow along just fine in Sabotaged. However, to truly understand the inner workings of the McKenna family, you really need to start with book one, Submerged, and work your way through the series. Believe me, you won’t regret it!
I loved the fact that Reef and Kirra have known each other almost their whole lives. They both have pre-conceived notions about who the other person is based on past knowledge. It is very enjoyable to watch their relationship change from antagonizing each other as they did in childhood, to feeling a very real attraction and admiration begin to grow between them.
This book has it all! It is full of the great action and suspense that has been a part of each book in the series. The attraction between Kirra and Reef begins quickly and sets up a wonderful tension between the two. Both Reef and Kirra have changed so much since their high school days, and Kirra’s recent backstory is one that touched my heart. Reef has gone through quite a change himself and is no longer the bad boy that Kirra remembers. Another thing I loved about this book is that, once again, we get to connect up with the other members of the McKenna family and see what is going on in their lives.
Sabotaged is an excellent story, full of attraction and adventure. I it loved from the first page to the very sigh-worthy epilogue at the end of the book. (5 stars)
I would like to express my thanks to Dani Pettrey & Bethany House for the complimentary copy of Sabotaged that I received in exchange for an honest review.
Book Summary:
Growing up, goody-two-shoes Kirra Jacobs and troublemaker Reef McKenna were always at odds. Now paired together on Yancey’s search-and-rescue canine unit, they begin to put aside old arguments as they come to see each other in a different light.
Then a call comes in from the Iditarod that will push them to their limits. Kirra’s uncle, a musher in the race, has disappeared. Kirra and Reef quickly track the man, but what they discover is harrowing. Frank’s daughter has been kidnapped. In order to save her, the man must use his knowledge as a mechanical engineer to do the kidnapper’s bidding or she will die.
Kirra and Reef, along with the entire McKenna family, are thrown into a race to stop a shadowy villain who is not only threatening a girl’s life, but appears willing to unleash one of the largest disasters Alaska has ever seen.
